After a very long break, posting in new blog on upgrading ADsync to latest version.
I was having version 1.6.4 running and doing its job well enough that I didn't brother to upgrade it to Latest version.
Today my team notified that ADsync was not working prom past 8 hours, I checked on server and tried to have a manual run of the same but got error "Unable to retrieve the Azure Active Directory configuration"
I tried to check event log for some pointer and noticed this error in event log "Event ID 6900" Source ADsync
The issue was clear that ADSync1.6 was no longer supported and I will have to upgraade it ASAP.
So, searched the net for latest possible version and on what needs to be done to get this 1.6 versdion to the latest working version.
Downloaded latest version which is 2.3.2 from following location "https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=47594"
Took a full server Backup, SQL DB backup... Just in case...
checked all over internet, In-place upgrade was easy for me as the server was 2022 and SQL was 2017 both supported versions. Just executed the "AzureADConnect.msi"
Clicked "Continue" and waited for 3 min and then following screen
Said all my prayers... crossed my fingers... and clicked "Upgrade"
took 5-6 minutes for it to process and it asked me for Azure credentials... which I happily entered and finally displayed the Completion screen
Finally the ADsync was Upgraded successfully and it synced the local AD with AzureAD.
My prayers were answered and all ended well.
I feel that Microsoft did a good job in making ADSync compatibility with Older version and didnt created a pit to bot itself and users, which made the upgrade as easy as sliding hot knife in clod butter slice.
